The United States Navy led the war against the Japanese Empire with a new way to project combat power through the air--the aircraft carrier! Here the USS Enterprise is shown in action during the battle of the Santa Cruiz Islands. This painting was inspired by the service of my father LCDR James F. Donnelly who fought on the USS Enterprise during many of the key campaigns of WWII including this one. The drama and action depicted in the print is compelling and realistic. It should inspire pride and thanks for a job well done for all hands who served on any of the ?Big E?s? in our Navy?s history. Our carrier forces continue to serve and project combat power far from our homeland as evidenced by Gulf War II.
